Kinesiology tape treatment in Chelmsford
Kinesiology taping also known as K tape is an effective additional tool to our therapists and can be used in a number of ways to achieve certain benefits. At Faye Pattison Physiotherapy based here in Chelmsford, Essex, we use the leading tape in the industry, RockTape, because our patients deserve the best. By just applying the tape to the skin, a bio-mechanical lifting effect takes place to decompress the tissues under the skin to increase blood flow, which increases the healing and decompress pain receptors to reduce pain.
Other benefits of using K-Tape include the increasing of movement awareness called proprioception. The tape can help maintain a more ‘normal’ biomechanical movement, offsetting muscles of stimulating muscles to work appropriately, increase functional stability to structures, reduce strain on repairing tissues and delay the onset of muscle fatigue and cramp. It is being used more and more by sports personalities but is also becoming increasingly acknowledged as an effective treatment tool by the general public for a range of different injuries.
Kinesiology tape also has great benefits in reducing swelling and bruising faster than if left untreated – with our therapists seeing great results with impact bruising and post-surgery swelling. Our therapists will include kinesiology tape treatment within your treatment plan if they feel it is appropriate and will help your recovery.
What does K taping do?
K taping treatment is used to aid the natural healing process and help the progress of rehabilitation. First developed in the 1970s, there are now hundreds of brands to choose from. Our therapists use RockTape – a leading and much applauded brand of K tape in the industry.
K tape is often made from a mix of cotton and nylon allowing it to mould to the skin easily and feel breathable – so it doesn’t feel uncomfortable or restrictive on the body.
It has a number of benefits but mainly supports and stabilises the injured area without restriction – allowing improved performance and reduced swelling. It mimics the elasticity of the skin, allowing smoother and fuller movement. This can be used during physiotherapy to aid therapy and the healing process.
How does kinesiology tape work?
K taping treatment can help with soft tissue manipulation and facilitate lymphatic drainage by reducing the pressure felt on the injured area. K tape is easily applied and moulded around the body and is waterproof, so it can be worn for 3-5 days through exercise and showering to continue to support the area.
Physiotherapists use it alongside their therapy to aid recovery and allow their client to achieve more movement without pain. It can also be an extra source of support for the weak zones – helping to reduce further injury or pain when the muscle or joint could face risk of relapsing.
